HARRY TRUMAN - THE GREATNESS OF HUMILITY

 Harry & Bess

Harry Truman was a different class as President. He probably did as much or more decisions in relation to our history as a nation as they did the other 42 presidents who preceded him. However, a measure of his greatness may remain forever and that's what he did after he left the White House.
The only 'Active' he had when he died was the house in which he lived, which was in Independence, Missouri. His wife had inherited from their parents and apart from the years spent in the White House was where they lived for a lifetime.
When he retired from official life in 1952, all his income was a pension that was reported coming from the U.S. Army's $ 13,507.72 a year. Congress, finding out who paid their stamps and pasting them personally with his saliva, gave an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $ 25,000 per year.
After the inauguration of President Eisenhower, Harry and Bess back driving his car to his home in Missouri ... company without the Secret Service.
When they offered corporate positions with large salaries, refused, saying:   "You do not want me, they just want the figure of the President and that is not mine. It belongs to the American people and is not for sale ..." .
Still later, when in May 6, 1971, Congress was preparing to give the Medal of Honor at its 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writes:  "I do not think he did anything that I deserve it, whether that comes from Congress or anything. "
As President he paid all travel expenses and food with their own money.
Modern politicians have found a new level of success using the Presidency, resulting in obtaining an enormous wealth. Today, many politicians in Congress also have found ways to become millionaires, while they enjoy their jobs, which are now on sale. (Sic. Illinois)
Good old Harry Truman was right when he observed:  "My goals in life were always to be a pianist in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there is no difference between the two!"

When we will get back to be on the right target to be real humans? He really surprised everybody. I live his presidency when I went to study in Boston when I was 15 and left my country Venezuela.
